This fact will allow the new nuclear powered icebreaker independently carry out at sea route in the Arctic tankers with a displacement of more than 70 thousand tons.
In addition, the nuclear-powered icebreaker of new generation will be equipped with special ballast system, thanks to which he could for the time setting change the draught from minimum to maximum and back. «Sit down» nuclear powered icebreaker will be able to due to a set of water in special containers - this will allow him to increase permeability through the ice.
As said Ivan Kamenskikh, Deputy General Director of the Corporation, continues to grow dynamics of cargo transportation by the Northern sea route. By 2018, the capacity of the icebreaking fleet may not be enough to accomplish the tasks of Russia in the Arctic. New nuclear powered icebreaker is designed to solve this problem.
