The company Domodedovo Trans Development intends to build a fast tram line in the southern part of the Moscow Province close to the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD). The lines will be 214 km long and will connect the Moscow Province towns of Ramenskoye, Domodedovo, Shcherbinka and Skolkovo, along with Butovo and Solntsevo on the outskirts of Moscow.
The pilot project in this part of the Moscow Province is to be put into operation in 2015. The company expects the state to fund part of the project.
As Russian Construction Review reported on a previous occasion, the first fast tram line is expected to appear along the Shchelkovskoye motorway in the east of Moscow. It will link the Moscow Province town of Balashikha to Ploshchad Ilyicha underground station in the city centre. The journey between the two stations will take half an hour, much less than the current time. The construction work will begin in 2012. According to the city authorities, the fast tram will replace the previously planned metro line on this route, as the former will be less expensive to build.
